Ellen Forney is the bad-ass-cartoonist-Stranger-genius that designed two massive murals displayed in the North and West entrances of the Sound Transit light rail station now open on Capitol Hill. One is called “Crossed Pinkies” which is 40 feet long and 13 feet high, and hangs in the North entrance overlooking John Street. The other piece for the Broadway entrance, “Walking Fingers”, is 20 feet by 28 feet.
The Capitol Hill Blog in an earlier feature during the stations construction wrote "Ellen Forney has been a professional cartoonist illustrator since the early 1990s, and has dabbled in a variety of other artistic mediums since then.
Stranger Genius award winners and Cloud Room members, D'Vonne Lewis, Evan Flory-Barnes, Ahamefule J. Oluo and Josh Rawlings make music that's described as an easily accessible yet difficult-to-categorize sound that merges elements of jazz, hip-hop, electronica and the indefinable. All without hacking out an unnecessarily complicated “progressive” fusion-mishmash. The individual members’ key strengths were mastery of their chosen instruments and sophisticated yet earthy compositional skills, both finely honed in formal study and persistent live performance backgrounds.

After a career spent helping large and small companies build great brands, Michael has shifted his focus to helping anyone start and run a great independent business.
His new company, indie.biz , soft-launched its beta two months ago. The core insight for the business is that most independents are not “business people”, we’re people who have a skill, passion or dream that we’re almost compelled to build. They figure out the business stuff along the way, largely through try and error, word of mouth and generally re-inventing the wheel each time. This first beta version of indie.biz has a free planning tool, free business guides on a range of topics and a marketplace of products and services from other companies, including accounting software, legal services and payroll.
“This is a mission-driven company,” Michael explains. “It’s very important to me that we innovate in the business model so we can always keep the information and tools free for members. We’ll do that by using the marketplace to unlock our collective buying power: individually, we’re small but together we’re huge.”
Dani Cone has three great loves: fine coffee, good food, and community.
In 2005, after over twelve years in the coffee industry, she opened Fuel Coffee, and by 2007 had expanded it to three locations. In 2008, during a troubled economy, High 5 Pie was launched to bring a little “delicious comfort” to tough times. Dani believes that people come together over good food and drink and strives to build places that create this experience.
Dani believes that the neighborhood market is a true catalyst to creating community. Inspired by her great-grandfather's store one hundred years prior, Cone & Steiner General opened in 2014.
“The Cloud Room is my personal HQ when I need to step away from the stores and think, and to hold strategic meetings with staff and investors. We’re raising our second investment round and Liz’s connections in the Seattle business community are helping us raise money and pick up key advisors.”
